Norman Sawdey-2007
Norm Sawdey has been a runner, volunteer, and tireless worker for the Dayton running community for 27 years
Graduated from UD in Chemical Engineering and as an MBA
He worked as an engineer with General Motors until his retirement in 2002
Started running in 1979-health reasons, a family history of heart problems including his Dad who passed away at age 64
First race: Kettering YMCA 5 miler finished 4th
Participated in 18 River Corridor Classics from 1981 - 1998 with a best time of 83:37
Qualified for Boston Marathon in 1984
Participated in hundreds of local races and was a consistent age group winner
Competed until 2000, just enjoys running now as a hobby
Community Accomplishments: This is where Norm has made a most significant contribution to the Dayton area running program. I would not want to add up the hours, days, weeks, or months that Norm has contributed to making Dayton running what it is today.
Honored as a “Lifetime Member” of the Ohio River Road Runners Club
Fostered thoughtful use of the ORRRC Trust Fund to support local scholarships, community projects and numerous health related activities
Served as Vice-President, Secretary and trustee for the ORRRC, and point of contact for virtually every other job in the Club
Race director or race committee member for The ORRRC Marathon, Ghost & Goblins, and Turkey Trot, 3 of the largest events in the Dayton area
Rewrote ORRRC procedures for the election process, trustee functions, financial guidelines and budgets
Volunteered at countless ORRRC events from 1979 –2007. Instituted the Volunteer Reward program recognizing the many people who support ORRRC events
Both Norm and his wife, Anna Lee, have unselfishly volunteered at many other community events
Married to Anna Lee for 40 years, they reside in Kettering, Ohio
