Dave Reid- 2001
§
He was born in New Zealand and then moved to Cleveland, Ohio as a
high school junior in 1964. In 1965 he was the Ohio High School cross country
state champion. He went on to start at Miami of Ohio University from
1966-1970-running both track and cross country. After college he settled down in
the Dayton area and during the 70’s and early 80’s was extremely difficult to
beat in local competition. By the time his competitive career was over he had
run 18 marathons, 16 of which were under three hours- including a top 200 finish
at the New York marathon and a top 500 finish at the Boston Marathon. He
finished as high as 7th at the highly competitive Dayton Daily News
run.
§ As well as being a great runner he was also gave a great deal of time and energy back to the local running community as both a coach and volunteer. He coached track and cross country for many years at Valley View High School and personally directed a number of local races and fun runs.
§ He was the local race director for many races including his “damn runs,” at Germantown Reserve and was the founding father of the “Turkey Trot,” in the area.
§ For many years he also operated the exclusive shop for runners, “Sporty Feet,” that was used by many of the Dayton community for all their running needs.
