Born: 7-21-60 Springfield Ohio
Began running: 1977 as a junior on the Tecumseh High Track team in New Carlisle, Ohio. Ran two years of Track and one Cross-Country season with times of 4:41 mile and 10:34 2 mile.
College running: 1980 Cross-Country season at Wright State University with Bob Schul.
I gave up college running in 1981 in order to officially coach the Vandalia-Butler Track Team (NCAA rules prohibited both).
Coaching career: Butler Track Distance Coach 1981-1995, with 10 years as a Cross-Country Coach (5 as Head Coach).
St. Christopher Track Coach in Vandalia (K-8th grade) from 1996-2002, for a total of 22 years in Vandalia.
Road Racing career: over 300 road races with the following personal bests:
Marathon: 2:30:43
10k: 30:12
5 mile: 24:17(split)
5k: 14:47
Most memorable road race performances:
1988 First place tie at M'burg Turkey Trot in course record 25:00.
1988: Top 50 finish out of 12,000 in Pittsburgh Great Race in a 10k p.r. of 30:12(15:06 for each 5k).
1990: First place in the Stroh's Night Run of Dayton 15:12
1990: Second place in 30-34 age group at the National Half-Marathon Championship in hilly Parkersburg, WV in 69:49
Training: 50-70 miles per week average (more for marathon training). Best training run ever: 30 miles at 6:13 per mile on 30th birthday, alone with no stops or water in July.
Best workouts ever: 5 x mile in 4:35 average & 3 x 2 mile repeats in 9:30 average.
