Neal Charske- 1997
- Coached at Kettering Fairmont for 40 years and 2 years
at Springboro in both Men’s
and Women’s Track and cross country. He
coached a number of great athletes
including: Bob Reef, who went on to be an All-American at Miami University,
Maureen Cogan, who won a High School State Championship in cross country and
was the Big Ten 5000m Champ at The Ohio State University, Cindy Brown, who had
the fastest US female marathon time in 1989, and also had two of his runners
become college coaches, Mike Baumer, Wright State University, Julie Lueman,
Miami University.
- He was an USA Track and Field official for 30 years
becoming a master official. He officiated:
- 2 Olympic Trials
- US Masters Champions
- 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta
- Was inducted as a member of the Track and Field and
cross country coaches Hall Of Fame for the start of Ohio in 1987
- Received the “Ed Barker Award” given to one person
annually for outstanding contributions to the Sport of track and field and
cross country in Ohio, the highest award given by the state
- Is the past president and founder of the local officials
association and is also the past president for the state association for Track
and Cross Country Coaches
- Is the originator and director for the Mid-East cross
country meet which features the top ten boy and girl seniors from six different states
